Ownership: Published by Stichting Dabanga Foundation, a Dutch foundation registered on 9 February 2021 with its seat in Amsterdam and Dutch public-benefit status. Two-tier governance: an executive board of a managing director and an editorial director who is also editor-in-chief, plus an unpaid supervisory board and an advisory board. Until 2021 it was a project team inside Free Press Unlimited, which remains a partner.

Funding: Almost entirely government grants: the whole of 2024 income and about 90 per cent of 2025 income, with a United States grant that supplied nearly 70 per cent of the budget terminated in April 2025. Small commercial campaigns, one named private foundation gift and individual donations make up the rest.

Focus Areas: The Sudanese war and its humanitarian consequences, Darfur and Kordofan, human rights and transitional justice, displacement and refugees, health, gender and youth, and civil society.
